Mohamed Mood (Arabic: محمد مود; muˈħamːad muːd, born January 1, 1986 [1], in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia), whose real name is Mohamed Mustafa Al Sharif, is a Sudanese rapper [2]and songwriter active in the contemporary Gulf hip-hop scene. His music blends Arabic rap with social themes and influences from modern Gulf music.[3][4][5]
Personal life
Mohamed Mood was born on January 1, 1986,[6] in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to parents of Sudanese origin.[3][2]
Career
He began his music activities in 2004[7] and initially encountered difficulties related to recording and limited knowledge of audio[8] engineering tools. He later learned to use production software and released his early work, including the song[9] "My Friends".[10][11] Mohamed Mood started his career as an underground rapper,[12] [13] producing his recordings with basic equipment and distributing his[14] music online through forums.[15][16]
Some public sources place him among the early group of artists active during the initial development[17] of rap music in Saudi Arabia.[18][19] These reports indicate that his[20] work included socially oriented and personal subjects connected to younger audiences at the time[21], prior to the wider growth of the genre in the following decade.[22][23]
Published sources also note that his songs have addressed topics such as rising prices, racism and discrimination.[24][25]
Musical style
Mood’s musical work incorporates elements of Arabic rap alongside features influenced by Sudanese and Gulf musical environments. His lyrics often draw on personal experiences and observations from everyday social contexts.
His early recordings used simple production techniques typical of underground rap scenes in the region, while later releases adopted more structured arrangements as his familiarity with digital audio tools increased.
Recurring themes in his work include social pressures, economic concerns, and interpersonal relationships, presented through direct lyrical phrasing and rhythm-focused delivery. His material reflects a combination of older rap forms and contemporary trends found in Gulf hip-hop.
