Plot

The novel is a historical fiction work set during the time of the Counts of Celje. The story follows the life of the miller's son, Janez, who is a simple country boy. The plot revolves around his personal journey as he becomes a hero, a journey that also leads to the "ennoblement" of the people from the village of Teharje. The narrative features themes of warfare and historical events of the era, including battles against the Turks and Crusaders. It also includes key characters such as Count Ulrik of Celje and other figures from that period, offering a classic heroic tale from a Slovenian perspective.[2][1]
