Mind Body & Soul is a 2024 American mockumentary comedy film directed and written by Robert Lang in his feature directorial debut. The film stars Conr Kinman as Satan, who is attempting to rebrand his image and reintegrate into modern society after being expelled from Hell.
Plot
The film is an existential mockumentary centered on Satan (Conr Kinman), who has been unexpectedly booted out of Hell. He moves into an apartment in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and invites a documentary crew to film his life, hoping to finally set the record straight about his persona and history.
The film initially follows Satan's efforts to reinvent himself and adapt to modern society. The plot shifts when his expulsion from Hell is revealed, forcing him to embark on a journey of self-discovery, rebranding, and figuring out who he wants to be moving forward. He hires a public relations specialist, Mimi Wilde (Melissa Bergland), to market his new and improved image to the world, exploring themes of social media, spirituality, and modern mythology along the way.
Production
The concept for Mind Body & Soul originated from a short film.[1] Lang and Kinman created during the 2020 pandemic. Lang served as the writer, director, editor, and producer for the feature film.
The film was shot in a low-budget, documentary style over a seven-day period, with a minimal crew to maintain the mockumentary feel. The micro-budget was reportedly under $25,000[2]
Director Robert Lang stated his intention was to explore Satan's historical persona and potential modern aspirations with respect, using humor and satire to avoid making fun of any specific religion, while also focusing on educating viewers about the subject. The film was reportedly endorsed by The Satanic Temple.[3]
Release
Mind Body & Soul was acquired by Indican Pictures for North American distribution.[4] It had a limited theatrical release starting on March 29, 2024,[5] followed by a video on demand release on April 16, 2024.
