Michael Eric David Lane (born 5 October 2006) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for EFL League Two club Fleetwood Town.[2]
Career
Lane was born in the Wirral and attended Ridgeway High School in Birkenhead. He started his career playing youth football for his local side Vauxhall Motors, where he played from the age of seven.[3] In April 2020, he signed for the academy at Liverpool having scored a remarkable 52 goals in just 13 games during the 2019–20 season for Vauxhall.[3] He spent almost 2 years at Liverpool before he joined the academy at Fleetwood Town in January 2022, playing and scoring regularly for the under-15 side.[4] He finished the 2022–23 season as top goalscorer for the under-16 and under-18 side and was rewarded with a two-year scholarship in July 2023.[4] During the season he was also named as an unused substitute for the first team during their record-breaking FA Cup run to the 5th round, losing 1–0 to Burnley at Turf Moor in March 2023.[5]
In December 2024, he was given his first experience of senior football when he joined Northern Premier League Division One West side Wythenshawe on a short-term loan deal, only featuring once in the local derby defeat to Wythenshawe Town on Boxing Day.[6] Lane featured regularly for the under-18's side during his scholarship and on 22 March 2025, he was handed his professional debut by first team manager, Pete Wild, coming on as a second-half substitute in the EFL League Two match against Tranmere Rovers, which finished as a 0–0 draw at Highbury Stadium.[2][7]
In July 2025, he was rewarded with his first professional contract, signing a one-year deal with the option of an extended year.[7]
