Meerut Central metro station is an elevated under-construction station on the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut RRTS corridor (also known as the Namo Bharat corridor) located in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India. It will serve both regional rapid transit (RRTS) trains and the local Meerut Metro service. The station is being built by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).
Location
The station is located near the central area of Meerut city, along the Meerut Bypass Road, providing direct access to major commercial and residential zones. It is planned as one of the busiest stations on the Meerut stretch of the Delhi–Meerut RRTS corridor, due to its location near major landmarks and public transport routes.
Design and structure
The Meerut Central station is designed as an elevated structure with three platforms and four tracks. Two platforms are dedicated for the RRTS corridor, while one is reserved for the local Meerut Metro services. The station features wide concourses, escalators, lifts, and passenger information systems to ensure smooth movement and accessibility.
Facilities
- Six lifts and eight escalators
- Passenger waiting areas
- Ticket vending machines and smartcard facilities
- CCTV surveillance and security systems
- Foot overbridge connecting both sides of the corridor
- Parking and drop-off zones for last-mile connectivity
Connectivity
Meerut Central metro station will serve as an important interchange point between the Delhi–Meerut RRTS line and the Meerut Metro service. The station will connect key parts of Meerut city, including Begumpul, Abu Lane, and Shastri Nagar, improving accessibility and reducing travel time to Delhi and Ghaziabad.
History and construction
The station’s civil structure is part of the 18-kilometre Meerut Metro segment within the Delhi–Meerut RRTS corridor. Construction works began in 2020 under the supervision of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). As of 2025, the major civil works have been completed, and finishing work including electrical and platform installation is in progress.[1]
Significance
Meerut Central metro station is one of the main hubs of the RRTS corridor in Meerut. It will act as a city-centre terminal for both RRTS and Metro trains, providing faster connections between the Delhi NCR and Meerut regions. The integration of RRTS and metro services makes this project one of the first of its kind in India, designed to decongest roads and improve urban mobility.
Future developments
After commissioning, Meerut Central will host both regional and local metro operations. A dedicated parking area, bus bays, and auto stands are being planned to provide seamless last-mile connectivity. The station will also serve as a model for future multimodal transport hubs in Uttar Pradesh.
