Md. Shahabul Haque (Bengali: ড. মোঃ সাহাবুল হক) is a Bangladeshi academic and political analyst who is a professor in the Department of Political Studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.[1]

Haque's academic work focuses on Bangladeshi and South Asian politics, as well as China's global influence.[2][3][4][5] He has provided political commentary for Deutsche Welle,[6][7][8] and Anadolu Agency.[9][10][11] He is the author of the book Coalition Politics of Bangladesh: 1954–2014.[12]

Haque is the General Secretary of the Association of Bangladesh-China Alumni (ABCA) and the founding president of the Bangladesh-China Youth Student Association.[13][14] He also serves as the coordinator of the Chinese Corner at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.[15]

Education

Shahabul Haque received a bachelor's degree in political science in 2000 and a masters degree in the same discipline in 2001 from the University of Dhaka.[1] He earned a second master's degree in International Migration and Social Cohesion from the University of Amsterdam in 2012. In 2020, he completed a PhD in Higher Education Administration at Beijing Normal University, China.[13]

Career

Haque worked as a journalist for the national newspaper The Daily Ittefaq and served as the President of the University of Dhaka Journalists’ Association (2003–2004).[1][16] He began his teaching career in 2006 as a lecturer in the Department of Political Studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.[17]

As a political analyst,[18] Haque writes columns and gives commentary on topics including Bangladesh-China relations and regional politics.[19][20][21] In his media appearances, he has analyzed the diplomatic activities of the interim government of Bangladesh under Muhammad Yunus, particularly its engagement with China, which he described as an indicator of strengthening bilateral relations.[22][23]

Through his role in the Association of Bangladesh-China Alumni,[24][25][26] Haque has been involved in academic and cultural initiatives with the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh.[27][28][29] He was part of the organizing team for the Bangladesh-China Tea Summit held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, which aimed to enhance tea trade cooperation.[30][31]
