Ljubezni tri in ena smrt

Ljubezni tri in ena smrt is a novel by Slovenian author Evald Flisar. It was first published in 2002. The book was later translated into English by David Limon and published under the title Three Loves, One Death. The English edition was shortlisted for the prestigious Kresnik Award in 2003.^[1][2]

The novel tells the story of a small family that moves from the city to a large, dilapidated farmhouse in the Slovenian countryside following the breakdown of Yugoslavia. The family's dream of a peaceful new life is shattered when a number of eccentric relatives arrive, including Cousin Vladimir, a former partisan, Uncle Vinko, an accountant who wants to grow the world's largest cabbage, Aunt Mara and her daughter Elisabeth, and Uncle Schweik, a war hero who everyone assumed was dead. The story is narrated by the family's young son. Through a series of absurd and humorous events, Flisar uses the family's interactions to comment on the nature of social cohesion and freedom. The novel also explores deeper themes of identity and the lingering emotional and historical scars of war.^[3][4][5]
