List of sequenced animal mitochondrial genomes

This list of sequenced animal mitochondrial genomes contains animals which had their mitochondrial genome assembled and deposited in a public database. With the exception of a few extinct organisms (denoted by a †), all genomes in this list are annotated and complete. For the mitochondrial genomes of other eukaryotes, see lists of sequenced mitochondrial genomes. For the genomes of all kingdoms, see list of sequenced genomes.

A compilation of most complete mitochondrial genomes is maintained by the NCBI in a public repository.[1]

This list currently contains 45 partial or complete mitochondrial genomes of extinct animals.

Placozoa is a very understudied phylum, so expect more mitochondrial genomes. Additionally, the systematics of this section may change. If that's the case, you will need to reorganize the charts.
