Kunigami Seikaku
Kunigami Ueekata Seikaku (国頭 親方 正格, Okinawan:Kunjan Weekata Sookaku; ? – 1571), also known by his Chinese style name Ba Juntoku (馬 順徳, Okinawan:Ma Juntuku), was a bureaucrat of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
Kunjan (Kunigami) was the eldest son of 国頭 正鑑 / Kunjan Sookan (Kunigami Seikan), and was also a grandson of 国頭 正胤 / Kunjan Sooin (Kunigami Seiin). He served as Sanshikan during King Shoo Gwan (Shō Gen)'s reign.[1]
Amami Ōshima revolted and refused to pay tribute in 1571. A troops led by King Shoo Gwan (Shō Gen) to suppress them, but the king got sick seriously on the way. Kunjan (Kunigami) prayed to heaven and said that he would like to replace the king to die. Magically, the king was full recovery and quickly put down the rebellion, but Kunjan (Kunigami) died. The king was moved, and promoted his son, 国頭 正致 / Kunjan Soochi, to the rank of Aji,[2][3] and established an aristocrat family: 国頭御殿 / Kunjan Udun (Kunigami Udun). This was the only one Aji family which had no royal blood, and Kunjan Sookaku (Kunigami Seikaku) was regarded as the third head of Kunjan Udun posthumously.[4]
