Juventino Rosas is a very small but bustling colonia in the Gustavo A. Madero borough of Mexico City. It’s named for famous Mexican Composer Juventino Rosas. It should not be confused with the Colonia Juventino Rosas that is located in the Iztacalco borough.

Main Attractions

Juventino Rosas Park is a popular attraction in the neighborhood, with many festivals, observances and events in the space. There is also a basketball court in the northern edge of the park, and the Juventino Rosas Ravine that serves as the park’s eastern boundary.[1] The street Miguel Lerdo de Tejada is the center of activity in the neighborhood, boasting a makeshift open-air market outside the park, as well as many shops and restaurants, including the locally famous Las Papas de León.

Risks

Despite its small area, the neighborhood still has similar problems with gangs, crime and violence as the surrounding colonias. [2] The neighborhood also contends with flooding, especially near Juventino Rosas Ravine. [3] Prevalent littering and dumping in the ravine reduce its effectiveness and increase flooding problems. [4]

Boundaries and Neighbors

To the east, Colonia La Forestal sits across the Juventino Rosas Ravine. To the west, Calle San Miguel serves as the border, separating Colonias Compositores Mexicanos and Tepetatal. The north is bounded by Calle Nicandro Castillo and Colonia Lomas De Cuautepec. The south gives way to Colonia San Miguel Cuautepec at Calle Miguel Lerdo de Tejada.[5]
