The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is set to be the 24th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. It will be organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the national broadcaster of the designated host country.[1]
Location
Unlike the Eurovision Song Contest, the winning broadcaster of the previous year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest does not automatically receive the right to host the next edition. However, since 2011 (with the exceptions of 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2024) it has become customary for winners to take on hosting duties, and since 2019, the winning broadcaster has had the right of first refusal on hosting the following competition.
On 18 December 2025, French broadcaster France Télévisions, which won the 2025 contest, announced that it opted not to host in 2026, citing a reduction in national programming expenditure,[2] marking its second refusal to stage the event in a three-year span after also doing so in 2024.[3]
Provisional list of participants
Eligibility for participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest requires a national broadcaster with active EBU membership capable of receiving the contest via the Eurovision network and broadcasting the contest live nationwide. The EBU issues an invitation to participate in the contest to all active members.
As of December 2025, broadcasters from the following countries have publicly confirmed their intention to participate in the 2026 contest:
| Country | Broadcaster | Artist | Song | Language | Songwriter(s) | Ref. |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Georgia | GPB | [4][5] | ||||
| Netherlands | AVROTROS | [6][7] | ||||
| North Macedonia | MRT | [8][9] | ||||
| Poland | TVP | TBD 25 April 2026 | [10][11][12] | |||
| Portugal | RTP | [13] |
Other countries
- Croatia – The Croatian Head of delegation outlined his hopes for continued participation, however no formal decison has been made by HRT.[7]
- Estonia – ERR may return to the contest in 2026, having outlined after its withdrawal from the 2025 contest that it could participate every other year. Karmel Killandi, head of entertainment at ERR, commented on 16 April 2025 in an interview with Sky.ee that the broadcaster would participate in the contest every other year as municipalities are unable to hold preliminary rounds of the biennial television program Tähtede lava, which selected the Estonian entrant in 2024, "more frequently";[14] earlier, in December 2024, ERR opted not to participate in the 2025 contest due to budget cuts.[15] An official confirmation of participation in 2026 is pending.
- Norway – On 22 July 2025, a spokesperson for NRK's children-oriented channel NRK Super stated that they would examine a potential return to the contest in 2026.[16][17]
- San Marino – In September 2025, SMRTV announced its desire to host the event in San Marino.[18] An official confirmation of participation in 2026 is pending.
- Spain – On 13 December 2025, RTVE announced that it had not yet made a decision on participating in the 2026 contest in light of its boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.[19]
Active EBU member broadcasters in Luxembourg, Slovenia and Sweden have confirmed non-participation prior to the announcement of the participants list by the EBU.[20][21][22]
