Jet Le Parti (born 1999[2] in Columbus, Georgia) is a German-American visual and sound artist, poet, and founder of the gallery and label initiative Base 36. Based between Berlin, London,[3] and Bushwick, Brooklyn, Le Parti works across painting, sound, performance, and writing.[4]

Early life and education

Le Parti was born in Columbus, Georgia, and grew up on Fort Benning, a large U.S. Army installation near the city. He later attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied philosophy and cognitive neuroscience.[5][6]

His academic background and interest in phenomenology, critical theory, and physics have informed his multidisciplinary approach, combining conceptual frameworks with sensory experimentation.[7]

Career

Le Parti's paintings focus on philosophical themes. In 2020 he founded Base 36, a hybrid gallery, label, and publishing initiative headquartered in Bushwick, Brooklyn.[8]

Outside of Base 36, Le Parti serves as Editorial Director and Editor-in-Chief of Converting Culture.[9]

His paintings include various works in his Melting Blues series,[8] To Be Hung (2022),[10] and others.

Le Parti's work was exhibited in the Veiled Constructions: Dark Perceptions of the Human Experience exhibition at Sotheby's Institute of Art in May 2023.[11][12]

Le Parti's poetry focuses on the existential and philosophical themes that are also present in his visual art.[13]

Alongside his visual and editorial practice, Le Parti produces experimental sound and electronic music under his own name. His works combine ambient, drone, minimal techno, and spoken word elements.[14][15][16]

Base 36

Base 36 is an independent cultural and artistic collective founded by artist Jet Le Parti. It functions as a platform for interdisciplinary research, production, and exhibition, integrating visual arts, music, and cultural theory. According to an analysis published in Whitehot Magazine, the name “Base 36” is inspired by the numerical system of the same name and symbolizes the idea of compressing information into a manageable form. The publication describes Base 36 as an “ambitious creative platform” that operates outside the logic of traditional commercial galleries.[17][18]
