Jamiat Ahle Hadith Jammu and Kashmir (lit.'Organisation of the People of Hadith in Jammu and Kashmir') is a Salafi organization based in Srinagar, in Indian-administrated Jammu and Kashmir.[1][2] The main motive of the organisation is to practice and propagate the Quran and Hadees in accordance to the Salafi Thought . The organization has followers across Kashmir.

Jamiat Ahlihadees has many educational centres across the state imparting the Islamic and contemporary education and some schools operating under Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Education (such as the Salfia Arabic College for boys, Salfia Arabic College for girls,Markaz Ibn Masood Li Tahfeez Ul Quran I kareem wa aloomihi, Markaz Aisha Li Tahfeez Ul Quran I kareem wa aloomihi, Salfia higher secondary school paraypora srinagar etc ). Jamiat under the leadership of its assassinated President of the organization, Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah planned to open a Global university (Trans World Muslim University) but hasn't been able to do so due to opposition of the bill by some of the Members in the upper house of the assembly.[3][4] After the assassination of Molana Showkat Ahmad Shah, the hierarchies of Jamiat Ahlihadith never put forward the demand of the University.[5]

Headquarters of jamiat Ahlihadees is located in Barbarshah Srinagar , It holds religious conferences across the state each year in which many scholars actively participate.[6] The organization has a charitable diagnostic test centre in Kashmir which provide medical facilities at a relatively less and affordable cost. The test centre is located at Zun Noorain Medical centre Chota Bazar Srinagar and main collection centre at its headquarters in Barbarshah locality of Srinagar and samples are collected at different places like Soura.[7]

The former president of the organization Showkat Ahmad Shah was killed in a blast, which was blamed on some element within the group and some members of the organisation arrested as well, when he was approaching the main entrance of Grand Mosque in Gawkadal, Srinagar for Friday prayers.[8][9] Ghulam Rasool Malik was elected as President of the organisation and after his term Moulana Ghulam Mohammad Bhat is the president.[10] As of March 2024 Dr Abdul Lateef Al-Kindi is its current elected president for a three-year term while Mushtaq Ahmad Wani serves as the general secretary. Mufti Muhammad Yaqoob Baba Al-Madani serves as the grand mufti.

  1. Amir : Equivalent of president, is the executive head of the organisation.
  2. Two vice-presidents: chosen by the president Jammu & Kashmir and (Ladakh). They assist the president in administrative work and vp acts as president if the president is absent.
  3. Secretary SMERT: This person looks after organisational frame work and acts as chairman of the Salafia Muslim Educational and Research Trust.

The organisation has the lowest level as Unit Jamiat which functions as the practical institutions in every locality in Jammu and Kashmir. They are organized in ascending order as Halqa Jamiat, Unit Jamiat, Tehsil Jamiat, District Jamiat.

The organisation operates about 900 masjids across the state and affiliated with every masjid is a madarasa.

Education

It is primarily an Islamic organisation devoted to the propagation of Islamic teachings in Jammu and Kashmir. It operates numerous primary Islamic educational institutions in almost every locality of the state. It also operates modern contemporary educational institutions which number around 150, these include higher secondaries (Higher Secondary School Certificate), high schools and primary schools.
