James Pull (born 5 October 1999) is a British–Malaysian racing driver who competes in Japan’s Super Taikyu Series for Hitotsuyama Racing, primarily in GT4 and GT3-based endurance classes.
Pull made his single-seater debut in Formula 4 during the 2015 MSA Formula Championship, driving for JTR and Fortec Motorsport. He joined Carlin Motorsport in 2016 and, in 2017, finished as a runner-up and won the rookie title in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship.
In 2018, Pull competed in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship, securing five race victories and finishing runner-up in both the Asia and Middle East series. Transitioning to GT racing in 2019, he claimed a Silver Cup class victory on his debut at the Spa 24 Hours endurance race in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup.
Making his GT World Challenge Europe debut in September 2020 with R-Motorsport, Pull won the Silver Cup class in the six-hour race at the Nürburgring in his first outing as part of the Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy. In 2024, he relocated to Japan to compete in the Super Taikyu Series with Hitotsuyama Racing in the ST-Z class, recording two podium finishes. He moved up to the top ST-X class for the 2025 season.
Personal life
Born in Singapore on 5 October 1999 to his Malaysian mother and British father, Pull took up karting at the age of eight[2][3] before moving to the United Kingdom at the age of 13 to pursue a full time career in motorsport.[4] Pull has lived most of his life in Asian countries.[5]
Racing career
Karting
Pull began karting in 2008 at the age of eight and competed at a competitive level across Asia from 2009 to 2011 and then in Europe from 2011 to 2014 with Chiesa Corse and the Tony Kart Racing Team respectively.[6][2]
Formula 4
In 2015, Pull began racing with JTR and later Fortec Motorsport for the 2015 MSA Formula Championship.[7] Pull qualified third in his first race at Brands Hatch Indy and took two podiums on his first race weekend. Pull then qualified third with two more podiums at Donington Park in his second outing. Pull finished in 10th place in his first season in the Championship.
In 2016, Pull joined Carlin Motorsport for the 2016 F4 British Championship.[8] Pull won races at Rockingham and the Brands Hatch GP, resulting in an overall fourth-place finish in the Championship.[9]
Formula 3
In September 2016, Pull made his F3 debut, racing with Carlin Motorsport in the final round of the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship at Donington Park and in October 2016, at the BRDC British F3 Autumn Trophy. In November 2016, Pull was confirmed to be racing with Carlin in the 2017 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship. Pull ended the 2017 BRDC British F3 Championship as both Vice-Champion and Rookie-Champion.[10]
Toyota Racing Series
In 2018, Pull joined M2 Competition to compete in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand. Pull achieved three podiums, finishing in sixth place in the Championship.[2]
Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship
In 2018, Pull moved into GT's with FFF Racing Team in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East Championship, claiming a win on his debut race. Pull then followed this with another three wins. He finished the championship winning all four races, ending the Championship as Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East Vice Champion, despite missing the first round. Pull then competed in the Asian and European Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championships with FFF Racing in Asia and Bonaldi Motorsports in Europe. He ended the season of the Asian series as Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Vice Champion and the European Championship in 5th place. Pull was also signed up to the Lamborghini Young Driver Program in 2018.[11]
Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup
In 2019, Pull raced in GT3, with Barwell Motorsport. He and his teammates Jordan Witt and Sandy Mitchell competed in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, racing in the Silver Cup category.[12]
Total 24 Hours of Spa
In 2019, Pull and his teammates won the silver cup in the Total 24 Hours of Spa endurance race.[13]
6 Hour Nürburgring
In 2020, Pull competed with new teammates Valentin Hasse Clot, Andrew Watson from Garage 59, driving an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 as a member of the Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy. On debut with the team he won his first race in the Silver Cup category at the 6 Hour of Nurburgring.[14]
Super Taikyu
In 2024, Pull competed in the Super Taikyu with Hitotsuyama Racing, with 2 podiums in the ST-Z class. In 2025, Pull competed in the Super Taikyu again with Hitotsuyama Racing in ST-X, achieving two podiums.[15]
