Jack Quillin

Jack Donald Quillin is an American LGBTQ+ activist known for operating the LAScanner account on the platform X, which shared real-time information derived from a police scanner about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Los Angeles, California, in June 2025. His activities sparked controversy, including accusations of doxxing federal agents, and led to legal scrutiny.

LAScanner account and controversy

In June 2025, Quillin gained attention for running the LAScanner account on X, which used a police scanner to provide live updates on ICE enforcement actions in Los Angeles. The account posted details about ICE raid locations and, in some instances, personal information about federal agents, such as their names and addresses.[1] These actions were criticized as doxing, with reports linking the disclosures to violent protests against ICE, including injuries to agents during clashes in Los Angeles.[2][3]

On June 8, 2025, Quillin posted a statement on X comparing ICE agents to historical authoritarian forces, escalating public backlash.[4] After his own personal information was exposed online, Quillin deactivated the LAScanner account on June 9, 2025, and issued an apology, stating, "I should not have posted the locations of ICE raids, and I will no longer do so," while pledging cooperation with authorities.[1] A new account, LAScanner2, emerged shortly after, but its connection to Quillin is unconfirmed.[5] As of June 2025, Quillin has expressed intent to cooperate with law enforcement, but the investigation remains ongoing.[1]

Public reaction

Quillin's actions generated polarized responses. Critics, including law enforcement advocates, condemned his doxxing as reckless, while some immigration rights activists criticized ICE's tactics, though not all supported Quillin's methods.[2] His prior conviction and the LAScanner controversy fueled debates about online activism and privacy.[6]


Criminal History

On November 14, 2024 Jack Donald Quillin was charged by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office with a misdemeanor violation of California Penal Code section 653m(b)(making annoying phone calls) in the Superior Court of California for the County of Ventura, Case No. 2023029911. [7] The court record indicates the case was related to "domestic violence" and an additional charge of violating California Penal Code section 646.9(a) (stalking), a felony, was added along with an enhancement pursuant to California Rules of Court, Rule 4.421(a)(3) (victim was vulnerable). [8] Quillin pleaded nolo contendere, or "no contest", and was convicted on the felony stalking charge. [9] Other charges were dismissed though Quillin remains a convicted felon. [10] On December 18, 2025 Quillin was again arrested and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail, located at 800 South Victoria Avenue, Ventura, CA 93009, in relation to the case he was previously convicted of, according to jail records. [11] The Ventura County Sheriff's Department inmate information webpage indicates Quillin was arrested at 9:59 AM on December 18, 2025 and being housed in the MJ-3-D section of the Ventura County Main Jail without a bail amount listed. [12] The inmate information page shows the arrest is related to his prior felony stalking conviction and indicates Quillin is currently unemployed. [13]
