Ion Niță (born 21 February 1948) is a Romanian former footballer who played as a midfielder and forward.[1][2] He was part of "U" Craiova's team that won the 1973–74 Divizia A title, which was the first trophy in the club's history.[3]
Niță began his senior career at Dinamo Pitești, making his Divizia A debut on 10 April 1966 in a 2–2 draw against Universitatea Cluj.[4]
After a brief spell with Dunărea Calafat, he joined Universitatea Craiova, where he played between 1966 and 1974.[4]
At Craiova, Niță became a constant presence in the offensive line, contributing to the team’s rise during the 1970s.[4]
According to RomanianSoccer.ro, he played a total of 193 matches in Divizia A, scoring 16 goals.[4]
During his time with the club, he stood out for his regular appearances and contribution in several seasons, notably:
1968–1969 – 25 matches, 6 goals;
1970–1971 – 24 matches, 3 goals;
1973–1974 – 29 matches, 2 goals — the championship season.[4]
According to the official website of Universitatea Craiova, Niță was a starter in the match played on 19 June 1974 in Ploiești against Petrolul Ploiești, which ended in a draw.[4]
The result secured the first national title in the club’s history, even though their main rival, Dinamo București, had defeated FC Argeș Pitești 7–0 in the same round.
In that match, Niță received a rating of 7 and was substituted in the 56th minute by Bălan.[5]
After 1974, Niță moved to Steagul Roșu Brașov, where he played 14 matches and scored one goal in Divizia A, later appearing in Divizia B.[6]
He ended his career in the 1979–1980 season with Tractorul Brașov, recording 13 matches and one goal.[6]
