In the closet

In the closet may refer to:

  • Closeted, a metaphor for LGBTQ people who have not disclosed their sexual orientation or gender identity
  • Crypto-religiosity, the secret adherence to a religion while publicly professing to be of another faith
  • Passing (sociology), the ability of a person to be regarded as a member of an identity group or category that is often different from their own
    • Passing (gender), someone being perceived as a gender they identify as or are attempting to be seen as, rather than their sex assigned at birth
    • Passing (racial identity), one concealing their socially applied racial identity or ethnicity in order to be perceived as another race for acceptance and/or other benefits
  • Skeleton in the closet (or cupboard), a colloquial phrase and idiom used to describe an undisclosed fact about someone which, if revealed, would damage perceptions of the person
