Il mago di Venezia is the seventeenth studio album by Italian chamber orchestra Rondò Veneziano, released in Italy by DDD – La Drogueria di Drugolo and in Europe by BMG Ariola in 1994.[2][3][4]

Overview

The album is inspired by the world of Venetian art and in particular by Canaletto, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Mariano Fortuny called "The magician of Venice" by Marcel Proust.[5]

According to Katrin Bote: "Although Gian Piero Reverberi with his album can not touch the successes of 1992, it still contains pieces that deserve our greatest respect. For example, the wonderful "Blu oltremare", probably the most pressing of the album, where we find the classical guitar next to the piano, which results in an almost magical symbiosis. They also add the fresh "Itinerari veneti" with their crystal clear sound. From the piece "Deserti lontani" Reverberi has worked on an Arabic melody with appropriate sound colors. Melancholy and mysterious, the track "Filigrana", a work that reminds us of the compositions of the Eighties. The last piece, "Buon Natale, mondo", seems to be some of the theme of the album, which describes the magic of Venice, to be solved."[6]

It was the last Rondo Veneziano's album to have an official music video, directed by Kuno Dreysse.[7] The album was promoted throughout Europe, especially in Spain on TVE1 in 1994[8] and in Germany on ZDF at the Die-Patrick-Lindner-Show on 12 February 1995[9][10][11] with the singles "Blu oltremare" and "Il mago di Venezia".[12]
