Hany Samir Abdel-Azim Elbanna (born November 16, 1980) is an Egyptian former international basketball player and construction executive. He represented Egypt at the 1998 FIBA Africa Under-18 Championship and the 2001 FIBA Under-21 World Championship, where he averaged 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.[1] He later played college basketball for the UCF Knights men's basketball team during the 2002–03 NCAA Division I season.[2][3] After retiring from competition, he became president of HSE Contractors, a project-controls and scheduling consultancy based in Florida.[4]
Sports career
Elbanna represented Egypt at the 1998 FIBA Africa Under-18 Championship (U18 AfroBasket).[5][6] At the 2001 FIBA Under-21 World Championship, he averaged 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game for Egypt.[1] According to Afrobasket, Elbanna also played domestically for Al-Gezira in the Egyptian Basketball Superleague.[7] He later joined the UCF Knights men's basketball roster for the 2002–03 season, playing as a forward.[2][8][9]
Post-basketball career
After basketball, Hany Elbanna entered the construction industry. FOX 35 Orlando identified him as president of HSE Contractors, a project management and construction consulting firm.[10] Florida Division of Corporations filings also list Hany Elbanna as an officer and registered agent of H S E Contractors Inc.[11] He was also listed as a speaker at the Florida Transportation Builders’ Association Construction Conference in 2023.[12]
In 2008, Hany Elbanna's firm, HSE Contractors, was competitively procured by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to provide independent schedule fidelity oversight and program management advisory services.[13] He later collaborated with Tier-1 general contractors, including Kiewit’s Southeast District, on complex, multi-phased infrastructure projects.[14]
Under Hany Elbanna's leadership, HSE Contractors has specialized in services such as building information modeling (BIM), critical path method (CPM) scheduling, project management, and construction delay claims. The company's portfolio spans major transportation, aviation, energy, data center, semiconductor, and residential developments. Notable work includes the I-4 Ultimate highway improvement project, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard modernization, 425 Park Avenue in New York, Brown University’s Hayes Hall renovation, and the Aston Martin Residences in Miami. According to company disclosures and verified project records, HSE emphasizes transparency, diligence, and a commitment to high-quality project delivery as central principles of its work.[15]
Hany Elbanna has contributed as an industry speaker and media commentator. In 2023, he was listed as a speaker at the Florida Transportation Builders’ Association Construction Conference.[16] His professional insights have also been featured in several FOX 35 Orlando reports related to the I-4 Ultimate program, including coverage of pavement failures and emergency repairs,[17] the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on construction sequencing and project acceleration,[18] and worker safety during the program's build-out.[19] He has also appeared on the Arabic program Ya Meshrafna discussing construction management practices and his career trajectory from athletics to industry leadership.[20]
Hany Elbanna has also testified in court as an expert witness. His schedule analysis was presented in support of Hubbard Construction during a case in the Circuit Court of Fort Lauderdale. According to company statements, HSE Contractors, under Hany Elbanna's leadership, has overseen project controls on construction programs collectively valued at more than US$25 billion across multiple industries over the past 25 years, with experience spanning North America and a wide range of sectors.[21] He continues to participate in professional conferences and symposia on delay analysis and construction project delivery.[22]
