Hakan Şükrü Kurnaz (born 31 May 2004) is a Turkish weightlifter who competes in the 96 kg category.
Career
At the 2022 Junior World Weightlifting Championships held in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, Hakan Şükrü Kurnaz won two gold medals in the men's 81 kg event — lifting 150 kg in the snatch and achieving a total of 324 kg.[1]
At the 2023 European Weightlifting Championships in Yerevan, Armenia, competing in the men's 96 kg category, he won the silver medal in the snatch with a lift of 170 kg, finished sixth in the clean and jerk (191 kg), and placed fourth overall with a total of 361 kg. However, all his results were later disqualified after he tested positive for doping by the International Testing Agency (ITA).[2] Following an ITA-led investigation, Kurnaz received a 22-month suspension for doping at the 2023 European Championships in Yerevan.[3]
In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games, Kurnaz won a bronze medal in the men's 94 kg clean and jerk event with a lift of 165 kg.[4] He contributed to Turkey's weightlifting team total of 21 medals in the competition.[5]
