Gor Sahakyan (Գոռ Սահակյան; born 1 September 2003) is an Armenian weightlifter. He is a two-time European Champion (2023, 2024), bronze medalist at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships, and silver medalist at the 2025 European Weightlifting Championships.[1]

Career

In 2021, Saakyan won the gold medal in the men's junior 67 kg category at the European Junior Weightlifting Championships, lifting a total of 301 kg.

In May 2022, he earned a bronze medal at the 2022 Junior World Weightlifting Championships with a total of 302 kg, and the same year he captured another junior European title in the 67 kg class with 301 kg combined.

At the 2023 European Weightlifting Championships held in Yerevan, Armenia, Saakyan won the gold medal in the 67 kg category with a total of 320 kg — 145 kg in the snatch and 175 kg in the clean and jerk.[2][3]

At the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, he won the bronze medal in the 67 kg category with a total of 312 kg, also taking a small bronze in the snatch.[4]

In February 2024, Saakyan successfully defended his European title at the 2024 European Weightlifting Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, lifting 311 kg in total (140 kg snatch and 171 kg clean and jerk).[5]

At the 2025 European Weightlifting Championships in Chișinău, Moldova, Saakyan moved up to the 73 kg class and won the silver medal with a total of 338 kg (snatch 153 kg, clean and jerk 185 kg).[6]

In October 2025, at the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships held in Førde, Norway, Saakyan won a small silver medal in the snatch after lifting 154 kg — a new European record. However, he failed all three attempts at 182 kg in the clean and jerk.[7][8]
