Notable workMonograph "The Psycholinguistic Concept of Time", published 2001, in Armenian, is an interdisciplinary experimental study of time, as a category of Philosophy, Culture and Linguistic/Verbal Consciousness. The work examines the cognitive, cultural and conceptual categorization of time in Armenian, British and Russian cultures, in Armenian and European philosophy. The semiotic and semantic analysis of associative data proposes an insight into a psycholinguistic model of the language unit.

Gayane Hovhannisyan (Armenian: Գայանե Հովհաննիսյան, born 6 March 1965, Yerevan) is an Armenian linguist, Doctor of Sciences in Philology/Linguistics (2000), Professor (2005). Hovhannisyan was the first Chair of English (Romance and Germanic Languages) Teaching Methodology at Armenian State Pedagogical University, Yerevan. Currently she is the (acting) head of English Communication and Translation Chair at Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences.

Biography

Gayane Hovhannisyan was born in 1965 in Yerevan. In 1987 she graduated from Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences with honors. In 1993 she received Ph.D. in General and Applied Linguistics at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Linguistics in Moscow. In 2000 she obtained D.Sc. in Linguistics at Yerevan State University and Institute of Linguistics after H. Ajarian in Armenia.

She has taught different English courses in Armenia, Russian Federation, Oman holding both teaching and administrative positions. From 1996 to 2001 she taught English Linguistics and Psycholinguistics at the Faculty of Germanic and Romance Languages at Yerevan State University.

1998–2000 – Head of Foreign Languages Department, Moscow New Institute of Law, Armenian Branch.

2000–2007 – Founding Head of the English Language and Teaching Methodology Chair at the Armenian State Pedagogical University. 2008–2012 – Head of the English Communication Chair Yerevan State Linguistic University.

Between 2000 and 2013 Hovhannisyan was member of Doctoral Dissertation Review and Degree Awarding Committees in Linguistics, Slavic Languages and Teaching Methodology. During this time she practiced forensic linguistic expertise for MJ, RA.

Works and research interests

Gayane Hovhannisyan authored over a dozen manuals and handbooks, a monograph, around 70 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in Applied Linguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Communication Translation Studies, Digital Humanities, Education. Her research interests include psycholinguistic, cultural and linguistic categorization, semantic and associative systems of consciousness, social and psychological aspects of language personality, cognition and emotions. Her recent interests include conceptual and translation aspects of preserving endangered cultural heritage, culture-specific elements in translated texts for the Digital Humanities.
