Fathma Hazrat Omar Sarangani (born June 12, 2000) is a Filipino female politician who currently serves as the mayor of Madalum, Lanao del Sur.[1] She became the mayor after winning the 2025 local elections in the municipality of Madalum, thus replacing her father Usman M. Sarangani Jr., who was its previous mayor.
Early life
She was born on June 12, 2000 in Iligan, Lanao del Norte, with the name Fathma Hazrat Macarimbang Mindalano Omar Sarangani.[2] She is the daughter of Usman "Palao" Mindalano Sarangani Jr., the previous mayor of Madalum, and Almyrah "Almah" Macarimbang Omar-Sarangani, the daughter of Hadji Abolais Raquib Omar, who was a former mayor of Madalum, and Zaalica Macarimbang-Omar.[3]
Fathma is also the granddaughter of two other former mayors of Madalum, Usman Tantao Sarangani Sr., Sultan of Uyaan in Madamba and the reigning Paramount Sultan of Mindanao, and Soraida Mindalano-Sarangani.[3]
Personal life
Fathma is married to the incumbent councilor of Sapad in Lanao del Norte, Mohammad Sahab Dimaporo Asis, the son of Paruk U. Asis, who is the incumbent mayor of Sapad, and Sindao Dimaporo-Asis, the daughter of the late Sultan Naga Dimaporo. This makes her, by affinity, a member of the Dimaporo political family, which is quite well-known in Mindanao.[3]
Education
She was one of the Second Semester Latin Awardees, Academic Year 2024–25, earning an undergraduate degree Bachelor of Science in Biology (BS Biology) at Mindanao State University Main Campus in Marawi.[4]
Political career
Fathma was elected mayor of Madalum, a third-class municipality in Lanao del Sur, on May 12, 2025. Following the 2025 elections, the municipality had 12,837 registered voters. She received 8,927 votes (69.54%), beating the other six mayoral candidates. In this election, she was nominated by the local political party Serbisyong Inklusibo-Alyansang Progresibo (SIAP).[5]
During her leadership, a 1.44 km farm-to-market road (FMR) was built, connecting Barangay Cadayonan to Barangay Bubong in Madalum. She attended the inauguration ceremony with the ribbon cutting, together with Zoraida O. Macadindang, the Northern Mindanao Regional Director of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), on July 7, 2025.[6]
