Evarcha werneri is a species of spider in the family Salticidae.[1] It is found in Guinea, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Namibia, and South Africa and is commonly known as Werner's Evarcha jumping spider.[2]
Distribution
Evarcha werneri is found in Guinea, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Namibia, and South Africa.[1][3]
In South Africa, it is known from KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.[2]
Habitat and ecology
Specimens were sampled from pitfall traps and sweeping grass in the Savanna Biome at altitudes ranging from 16 to 1360 m.[2]
Description
Conservation
Evarcha werneri is protected in Ndumo Game Reserve and Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa.[2]
Taxonomy
The species was originally described as Stenaelurillus werneri from Sudan in 1906.[4] It was transferred to Evarcha by Logunov and Azarkina in 2018, with Evarcha elegans being synonymized.[5] Both sexes are known.[2]
