Elmar Theveßen (German pronunciation: [ˈɛlmaʁ ˈteːvəsn̩]; born 3 June 1967) is a German journalist and author.

Life

Born in Viersen, Theveßen studied history, political science and Germanistics at the University of Bonn. He later studied foreign policy and journalism at the American University in Washington, D.C. In 1991, he began working for ZDF, eventually becoming (from 2007 to 2019) the head of the broadcaster's current affairs department.[1] Since 2019, he has been the director of ZDF's Washington studio.[2]

Reception

Theveßen has been criticized by other journalists[3][4] for the inflammatory language he has applied to Donald Trump, calling him a "fascist", a "malignant narcissist", and an "autocrat who wants to destroy American democracy with a wrecking ball", as well as comparing him to Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.[5][6][7]
