History

Before this building was built, this was the site of the Washburn Wire Factory Complex. This factory was built in 1903 that included 6 buildings that make wire products. The company itself was founded by Ichabod Washburn. This factory itself was closed on 1976.[4][5] It had employed up to 600-1200 by its wire production peak.[5] BDG had purchased the site in 1996[6] and the Washburn Wire Factory is on the verge of being demolished to this Shopping Center and was unveiled in March 1998. Construction had started on 2006 and is completed and opened on November 2009.

The location, in the East River Plaza at 116th and the FDR Drive, is one of nine stores the retailer announced will close in just a few weeks, but it's the only one on the East Coast.... Now, it will close for good on October 21."
