Democratic Reform Alliance (Bengali: গণতান্ত্রিক সংস্কার জোট) is a Bangladeshi political alliance consisting three parties, the National Citizen Party (NCP), the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), and the Rashtra Sanskar Andolan (RSA). The alliance was established on 7 December 2025, ahead of 2026 Bangladeshi general election.

History

Background

An alliance between the NCP and like-minded parties surfaced in the political field for a long time. On 16 October 2025, AB Party leader Mojibur Rahman Monju hinted a possible alliance consisting of the NCP, his party, the Gono Odhikar Parishad and the 6 member parties of the Ganatantra Manch alliance.[1][2] The NCP, the GOP, the AB Party, the RSA, the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Rab), and the United People's Bangladesh expressed interest to join the alliance. However, the NCP's opposition to the inclusion of UP Bangladesh, a splinter faction of the party, and GOP's internal disputes hampered the formation of the alliance in November.[3]

Establishment

The alliance was announced on 7 December 2025 in an urgent press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.[4] Nahid Islam, the leader of the NCP, declared that the alliance was "not merely an electoral alliance, but a political coalition".[4][5] AB Party leader Mojibur Rahman Monju and RSA leader Hasnat Quaiyum were also present.[4]

Goals

According to Nahid, the alliance will focus on "national dignity" and "economic liberation".[4] The alliance was announced with "a commitment to fulfilling the aspirations for change" that emerged out after the July Revolution and "to prevent the country from returning to the path of old politics".[4]
