The Defense Commissary Agency Distinguished Civilian Service Award is the highest civilian award given to a Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) employee by that agency. It is awarded to civilian employees that show exceptional service or contributions DeCA or the DoD.[1]
Criteria
The award may be conferred due to:
- performing assigned duties in a clearly exceptional manner.
- developing or improving procedures or methods that result in exceptional improvement for DeCA, the DoD or Federal Government.
- showing exceptional courage and voluntary risk of personal safety in the performance of assigned duties or the direct benefit of government personnel.
- other exceptional performance that the agency director sees as warranting this award.
Heroic Act
Should the award be given for a heroic act, the recipient may be given a cash award up to $1000 to cover damages or property loss in the act of heroism.
Description
The medal is stylized shield of 24 karat gold plated red brass with the seal of the Defense Commissary Agency on the front. On the Reverse it is inscribed DEFENSE COMMISSARY AGENCY and DISTINGUISHED CIVILIAN SERVICE AWARD AWARDED TO above crossed laurels and oak leaves.[2]
