Cyprus has competed at the World Athletics Championships since 1983, being absent in 2001 and 2011.[1] Kyriakos Ioannou was the first athlete to win a medal for the country,[2][1] when he placed third in the men's high jump event at the 2007 World Athletics Championships.[3] Kyriakos then went on to win a second medal, this time with a second place in the same event.[4]
