Chaetocnema basalis is a species of leaf beetle, family Chrysomelidae, in the subfamily Galerucinae.[1][3] It is considered an agricultural pest, affecting both millets and sorghum in the Palearctic realm and continent of Asia.[2] It is considered a synonym of Chaetocnema nigrica by some sources.[4]

Chaetocnema basalis Baly 1877: 310. Syn. Chaetocnema geniculata Jacoby 1896: 270. It is found in Asia and the Palearctic. The genus is thoroughly reviewed for the Palearctic region (Konstantinov et al., 2011). It feeds on sorghum and millets. There are many other species of this genus reported as pests.
