The Battle of Kalesija, also known by the Bosniaks as the Liberation of Kalesija (Bosnian: Oslobađanje Kalesija), was a major battle during the Bosnian war from 2 May 1992 till 23 May 1992. It was the first place to be recaptured by the T.O RBiH

Background

In early April the Bosnian War started after clashes that happened since the indepednce of Bosnia. On 8 April 1992 Zvornik was captured by the JNA which made Kalesija the next target.

Early fighting

On 2 May 1992 The JNA captured several villages near Kalesija. Heavy fighting happened in the town till 11 May 1992 when the JNA alongside the White Eagles under Zoran Obrenović, captured the center, although they failed to capture the two settlements of Zukići and Jajići[1] The T.O RBiH had defended the 2 settlements ever since.

Battle of Bijeljevac

On 22 May 1992 T.O RBiH in Kalesija (TO Kalesija) organized an attack on the river Bijeljevac where the JNA was.[2] The T.O RBiH organized the Kalesija-Prnjavor group which will recapture Kalesija. On 23 May 1992 the action was executed and on the same day it started, it ended with the town being recaptured. The White Eagles lost 14 of its men, including their general Zoran Obrenović. Since then the town remained in T.O RBiH's hand
