Bakhrabad Gas Adarsha Bidhalaya (Bengali: বাখরাবাদ গ্যাস আদর্শ বিদ্যালয়) is a high school in Comilla, eastern Bangladesh, about a half kilometre north from Comilla Medical College.[1]

History

Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited is a government-owned company under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The head office of this company is located in Chapapur village, near Comilla city. The need to establish a modern and ideal school was felt to provide quality education to the children of the company's officers and employees and to develop the local community. When the proposal to establish the school was approved in the 204th board meeting, it was officially recognized on 27 October 1994. "Bakhrabad Gas Ideal School" was established on 1.425 acres of land with the company's own funds.

Teaching activities from nursery class to fourth class started from 1 January 1995 in a two-story building with modern facilities. On 24 December 1996, the school received recognition from the Department of Primary Education. On 25 September 2001, it was approved by the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Comilla as a lower secondary school by expanding the classes step by step.

Since its establishment, the school has been achieving success in the primary and junior scholarship examinations of students. On 2 January 2002, the 302nd Board meeting of BGDCL approved the start of secondary level (excluding Humanities) education. Later, on 9 October 2003, the decision was taken to incorporate the Humanities Group in the 326th Board meeting.

The Humanities Group was started in 9th grade in 2004 and in 2006, it participated in the first SSC examination and secured 4th position in the Comilla Board with 100% pass rate. Initially, the school provided free education only to the children of the company's officers and employees. Since 2000, due to the demands of local dignitaries, the opportunity to admit external students through selective examinations was introduced for a limited number of seats.

Currently, about 770 students are studying in this school and the institution is praised for its educational standard and administrative structure.
