History

Originally established during the French colonial era as the village of Cù Mi within Nhơn Xương canton, Bình Châu evolved into a commune under the Republic of Vietnam in the district of Xuyên Mộc, Phước Tuy province. Post-1975, it remained part of Xuyên Mộc district in Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu province. In 2025, pursuant to Resolution No. 76/2025/UBTVQH15 by the National Assembly Standing Committee, Bình Châu was incorporated into Ho Chi Minh City without alterations to its boundaries or population scale.[2] This integration marked a significant expansion of Ho Chi Minh City's administrative reach into southeastern territories.

Transport

The commune is traversed by National Highway 55 (east-west) and the Vietnam Coastal Road (Provincial Road 994, southwest-northeast), intersecting near the Suối Nước Mặn Bridge.[8] These routes facilitate access to Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.

Tourism

Bình Châu's principal attraction is the Bình Châu Hot Springs, discovered in 1905 by the French and documented in 1928 by physician Albert Sallet. Nestled within a primary forest, the site offers open-air mineral pools and has evolved into a world-class wellness destination.[9] Adjacent is the Bình Châu-Phước Bửu Nature Reserve, ideal for trekking and biodiversity exploration.[10] Resorts like Wyndham Grand Lagoona Bình Châu provide upscale accommodations, drawing visitors for eco-tourism and relaxation.
