Siliwangi Youth Force (Indonesian: Angkatan Muda Siliwangi; AMS) is an Indonesian mass organization founded on 10 November 1966 and generally consists of members from the Sundanese people. The head office is located at Braga Street No. 25B, Braga, Sumur Bandung, Bandung, West Java. The name "Siliwangi" is taken from the nickname of the famous Sundanese king, namely Sri Baduga Maharaja.

History

Background

The initial formation of the Siliwangi Youth Force was due to a group of young people who were restless due to the political, economic, social crisis, and state security due to the 30 September Movement in 1965 and wanted to help the Indonesian Government to crush organizations that adhered to communist ideology.[2] The establishment of this organization was also driven by the Military Region Command III/Siliwangi which continued to be carried out intensively, by mobilizing the strength of the people in West Java to stem the radicalism of the Indonesian Communist Party rebellion movement.[3]

Establishment

The Siliwangi Youth Force was founded on 10 November 1966, coinciding with Heroes Day, and at the same time, Muslims were celebrating Isra' Mi'raj. The founded of this organization also brought the spirit of Indonesian nationalism especially for the Sundanese people in West Java. Then the influence of this organization was more in the political field, because at that time this organization joined under the Golongan Karya (Golkar) Party.[2]
