The American Samoa women's national football team represents American Samoa in international women's association football. The team is governed by the Football Federation American Samoa (FFAS) and competes in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC).

American Samoa has yet to qualify for a FIFA Women's World Cup, but has participated in the OFC Women's Nations Cup once, in the 1998 edition. The country also participated twice in the Pacific Games women's football tournament.

Overview

American Samoa's first international occurred in October 1998, when they faced Australia, for the 1998 OFC Women's Championship.[2] The team was defeated 21–0 (with 7–0 in the half-time). Papua New Guinea, its second rival, also thrashed them, with a 9–0.

The team remained inactive until 2007, when they entered the Pacific Games football tournament, held in Samoa during August–September 2007. American Samoa finished last on the Group A, and scored its first (and only) goal, against the Cook Islands.[3]

They didn't see any improvement for the 2011 Pacific Games, where the team lost by thrashing defeats, like 8–0 with the Papuan team and 7–0 with the hosts. After this, American Samoa's participation in international competitions was scarce for the rest of the decade.

In 2025, after deciding not to participate in the 2025 OFC Women's Nations Cup, American Samoa had its first competitive international match of the year during the first round of the OFC qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, led by its new head coach Amanda Cromwell who brought a significantly revamped squad, most of whom were based in the United States. Despite being the lowest-ranked of the four participating nations in the first round, American Samoa managed a 3-0 win over Tonga, the highest-ranked team in the round; this was also their first-ever competitive win. American Samoa then followed it up with a convincing 4-0 win, their biggest win to date, against the Cook Islands to secure a spot in the second round of the qualification, which will be held between 27 February and 5 March 2026. This is the first time they have advanced past the first round of the qualifying process for a senior World Cup at any level.

As of December 2025, American Samoa is on the 137th position of the FIFA Women's World Ranking.[4]
