Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Zarutsky (Russian: Александр Александрович Заруцкий; born 26 August 1993) is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Kazakhstan Premier League club Kairat. Born in Russia,[2] he plays for the Kazakhstan national team.[1]

Early life

Aleksandr Zarutsky was born on 23 August 1993 in Nalchik, Russia[1] and he moved to Karaganda, Kazakhstan when he was young.[3]

Club career

Shakter Karagandy

He joined the youth team at Shakter Karagandy in 2011,[3] and he was promoted to the senior team in 2013.[1] He made his debut for the club as a substitute during the 4–0 loss against Aktobe on 19 October 2013,[4] and he made his first start for the club two years later on 7 March 2015 during the 0–0 draw against Taraz.

Kyzylzhar and Kubanskaya Korona Shevchenko

After taking a year-long break from football, Zarutsky joined Kazakhstan First League club Kyzylzhar on 24 February 2017 and he made one appearance for the club.[1] He then joined Russian club Kubanskaya Korona Shevchenko until 14 January 2019.

Atyrau, Irtysh Pavlodar, and Kaisar

He left Russia to join Atyrau in late January 2019 and he made his debut on 10 April 2019 during the 1–0 victory against Zhetysu Taldykorgan in the Kazakhstan Premier League. He would play two more games for the club, including on 1 May 2019 against Astana.

He joined Irtysh Pavlodar for the remainder of the 2019 season and made seven appearances, debuting during the 1–1 draw against Aktobe on 31 August 2019.[5] He also made one appearance for Irtysh M during 2019.

He then joined Kaisar and debuted during the 1–0 victory against Shakter Karagandy. He made his European debut during the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round on 17 September 2020 during the 4–1 loss against Cypriot club APOEL.[6]

Astana

He joined Astana in January 2021 and his first match with the club was the 2021 Kazakhstan Super Cup final which Astana lost on penalties.[7] He regularly featured in the UEFA Conference League for Astana[8] and also played for their reserve team on five occasions between 2021 and 2022.

With Astana, he won the 2022 Kazakhstan Premier League title.[9]

Kairat

He joined Kairat ahead of the 2025 season and debuted during the 2025 Kazakhstan Super Cup which was won by Kairat.[10] He then played seven matches during the UEFA Champions League before being injured against Celtic on 20 August 2025.[11]

International career

Born in Russia, Zarutsky played for Kazakhstan U21 in 2014 and he made his debut for the senior Kazakhstan national team on 11 June 2024 during the 3–2 friendly loss against Azerbaijan.[12] He made two more appearances for Kazakhstan against Curaçao and Wales in March 2025.[13][14]

Personal life

His father Alexander Zarutsky was also a footballer.[3]
