The Afro-American University of Central Africa (Universidad Afro-Americana de África Central) is an Equatorial Guinea public institution of higher education, the second university to be created in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea in Central Africa.

Its accreditation is planned to be submitted to the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WASCUC) in the USA assisted by affiliated members in the US, Mexico and Kenya. Equatorial Guinea is affiliated to CAMES (Conseil Africain et Malgache pour l’Enseignement Supérieur), a subregional African accreditation agency which gathers some 19 Franco-lusophone countries.

A UNESCO Chair was established at AAUCA in April 2025 on “Afro-Hispanic-American Education and Culture”, the first one in operation in Equatorial Guinea. African literature, cultural diversity, basic education and food security are the major subjects of this pioneering Chair.

The first Graduation Ceremony took place on October 10th 2025, when 69 new professionals were sworn in by the President of the Republic Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and Rector Paulo Speller.

It was announced that its Graduate School will be launched in September 2026 offering University Master Degrees in association with US, Spanish, Portuguese and Brazilian universities.

The main campus is at Ciudad de la Paz, Djibloho province, where the first four of the eight projected schools are operating: Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales, Facultad de Educación y Humanidades, Facultad de Ingeniería y Arquitectura y Facultad de Medicina y Biología. It is expected that the School of Agronomics and Veterinary should be inaugurated by September 2026.

Additionally, three new Schools may be launched alongside the next few years, covering Arquitecture, Environmental and Marine Sciences.

History

The university was created on 2 December 2015. Its main campus was inaugurated on 2 August 2019. On 27 January 2020 it opened for national and international students.[1]
