2026 Super Formula Championship
The 2026 Japanese Super Formula Championship will be the fifty-fourth season of premier Japanese open-wheel motor racing, and the twelfth under the moniker of Super Formula.
Teams and drivers
All teams use identical Dallara-built SF23 chassis with either Honda or Toyota engines. Every Honda-powered car uses a Honda HR-417E engine and every Toyota-powered car uses a Toyota TRD-01F engine. All teams compete with tyres supplied by Yokohama.

Team changes
- Newly established Super Formula Lights team Delightworks Racing will join the series. It will use Honda engine and will be operated by Toda Racing.[4][5]
- TGM Grand Prix will expand to three Toyota-powered cars, running two cars under the TGMGP TGR-DC guise and a single car under the Team Goh name that returns to Super Formula after a three-year absence.[6]
- Team Impul acquired a new title sponsor in industrial equipment company SDG, with the team competing under the name Wecars Impul with SDG.[2][7]
- Kondo Racing acquired a new title sponsor in transport and logistics company Realize Corporation, with the team competing under the name Realize Kondo Racing.[2]
Driver changes
- KCMG will have an all-new driver lineup as Kamui Kobayashi and Nirei Fukuzumi joined TGMGP and Rookie Racing, respectively. The team signed Kenta Yamashita from Kondo Racing with whom he finished eleventh in 2025, and two-time WRC champion Kalle Rovanperä, who retired from rallying to make his Formula racing debut with the support of Toyota Gazoo Racing.[2][8]
- Kondo Racing will also field two different drivers as Kenta Yamashita moved to KCMG and Zak O'Sullivan joined Team Impul.[2]
- Rookie Racing saw Kazuya Oshima retire from the series after 13 seasons of competition.[9] He was replaced by his Super GT teammate Nirei Fukuzumi, who moves over from KCMG after finishing the 2025 season in ninth.[2]
- Both Oliver Rasmussen and Mitsunori Takaboshi left Team Impul after one season, with Takaboshi focusing on his Super GT GT500 efforts with NISMO.[10][11] Team Impul will downscale their operation to only run one car, with Zak O'Sullivan joining the team for his sophomore season after finishing 15th with Kondo Racing in 2025.[2]
- TGMGP also renewed their lineup as Kazuto Kotaka, Hibiki Taira, and Seita Nonaka all left the team to focus on their Super GT GT300 campaigns. The team signed Kamui Kobayashi from KCMG, with whom he finished 13th in 2025, and Rikuto Kobayashi, who will make his full-season debut after coming third in the 2025 Super Formula Lights Championship with TOM'S and a two-race cameo for Team Impul in 2025.[2]
- Returning outfit Team Goh signed Charlie Wurz, who moves to Japan after finishing 13th in the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship with Trident.[2]
- New team Delightworks Racing signed Nobuharu Matsushita, who previously worked with the team as a driver advisor and will return to Super Formula after a year on the sidelines where he competed in Super GT GT500 with ARTA.[4]
- Syun Koide left B-Max Racing Team after one season. He will be replaced by reigning Super Formula Lights champion Yuto Nomura, stepping up from B-Max' outfit in that championship.[1]
Race calendar
The provisional calendar was announced on 5 August 2025, comprising the same five venues as the last season, and total of twelve races.[12]

- The first Suzuka race will move from March to May, with Motegi set as the first round.[13]
