On 25 March 1986, an Antonov An-32 twin engine turboprop transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force disappeared while flying over the Arabian Sea.[2] The aircraft was on a three-aircraft ferry flight[2] from the Soviet Union en route to India from Muscat-Seeb Airport, Oman, to Jamnagar, Gujarat, in India.[2] There were seven people on board. The last contact with the aircraft was 1 hour and 18 minutes after takeoff.

The Indian Air Force has suffered other similar incidents, mainly involving Antonov An-32 aircraft in 2016 and 2019 (both later found).[3]

Aircraft

The aircraft was involved a Antonov An-32, operated by the Indian Air Force, registered as K2729, msn 0705, manufactured in 1986.[2]

Disappearance

The aircraft was cruising very high over the Arabian Sea when it suddenly disappeared off the coast off Ras al Hadd due to unknown reasons, killing all three passengers and four crewmembers were presumed killed. The last contact was 1 hour and 18 minutes after takeoff.[4][5][6]

Legacy

  • There were no bodies or debris found.
  • It was the first and the only Soviet plane crash in Oman.
