The 1842 Virginia gubernatorial election was held on December 15, 1842, in order to elect the Governor of Virginia. Democratic nominee and former member of the Virginia House of Delegates James McDowell won the election in the Virginia General Assembly as he ran unopposed.
General election
On election day, December 15, 1842, Democratic nominee James McDowell easily won the election as he ran unopposed. McDowell was sworn in as the 29th Governor of Virginia on January 1, 1843.[1]
