Bis zur landesweiten Neuordnung der französischen Kantone im März 2015 gehörten zum Kanton Cluny die 24 Gemeinden Bergesserin, Berzé-le-Châtel, Blanot, Bray, Buffières, Château, Chérizet, Cluny, Cortambert, Curtil-sous-Buffières, Donzy-le-National, Donzy-le-Pertuis, Flagy, Jalogny, La Vineuse, Lournand, Massilly, Massy, Mazille, Saint-André-le-Désert, Sainte-Cécile, Saint-Vincent-des-Prés, Salornay-sur-Guye und Vitry-lès-Cluny. Sein Zuschnitt entsprach einer Fläche von 236,81 km km2. Er besaß vor 2015 einen anderen INSEE-Code als heute, nämlich 7112.
