David C. Hopkins

David Charles Hopkins (* 12. November 1952) ist ein US-amerikanischer Althistoriker und Vorderasiatischer Archäologe sowie Professor am Fachbereich Religionswissenschaften für Archäologie und Bibelinterpretation am Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D. C.[1][2] Hopkins war Herausgeber der Zeitschriften Near Eastern Archaeology[3][4] und The Biblical Archaeologist.[5]

Leben

David Hopkins wurde am 25. November 1952 geboren. Er wuchs im Norden von New Jersey auf, wo er Mitglied der Community Church of Mountain Lakes (United Church of Christ) wurde.[6]

Hopkins erwarb einen Bachelor of Science am Trinity College (Hartford). Seinen Master of Arts erlangte er an der Vanderbilt University. Hopkins promovierte an der Vanderbilt University mit seiner Dissertation Agricultural subsistence in the early Iron Age highlands of Canaan (Landwirtschaftliche Subsistenzwirtschaft im Hochland von Kanaan in der frühen Eisenzeit).[6] Hopkins studierte auch am Ökumenischen Institut für Theologische Studien in Jerusalem, wo er zwei längere Aufenthalte verbrachte.[7]

Hopkins war sechs Jahre lang Lehrer am Lancaster Theological Seminary. Er begann als außerordentlicher Professor und arbeitete später achtzehn Jahre lang als Professor am Wesley Theological Seminary.[6][8] David C. Hopkins teilte sich die Lehrtätigkeit am Wesley Theological Seminary mit seiner Frau Denise Dombkowski Hopkins.[9]

Seit 1989 ist Hopkins Teil des Madaba Plains Projects und arbeitet dort als Leiter der Feldforschung, wobei er Ausgrabungen im Hinterland von Tall al-Umayri durchführt.[9]
