Adair Crawford

Adair Crawford (* 1748; † 29. Juli 1795 in Lymington) war ein schottisch-irischer Chemiker.

Crawford war Professor an der Royal Military Academy in Woolwich. Zudem praktizierte er zeitweise im St Thomas’ Hospital.

Crawford war 1790 zusammen mit William Cruickshank an der Entdeckung des Elements Strontium beteiligt. Er war ein Pionier auf dem Gebiet der Kalorimetrie. Hier beeinflusste er Alessandro Volta.

1785 wurde Crawford zum Mitglied der American Philosophical Society gewählt.^[1] Am 11. Mai 1786 wurde er als Mitglied („Fellow“) in die Royal Society gewählt.^[2] Am 22. Januar 1787 wurde Crawford auf Vorschlag von John Playfair, James Hutton und James Gregory (1753–1821) als „Fellow“ in die Royal Society of Edinburgh gewählt.^[3]
