Aaron Hill (Schriftsteller)

Aaron Hill (* 10. Februar 1685 in London; † 8. Februar 1750 in London)^[1] war ein englischer Dramatiker und Dichter.

Aaron Hill wurde 1685 als Sohn des Anwalts George Hill in London geboren. Er besuchte die Westminster School. Mit 14 Jahren reiste er nach Konstantinopel, um einen entfernten Verwandten zu besuchten. Über seine Reise, auch an andere Orte des Osmanischen Reiches, veröffentlichte er 1709 A Full and Just Account of the Present State of the Ottoman Empire.

Hill arbeitete als Sekretär des Earl of Peterborough. 1710 heiratete er Margaret Morris (1694–1731), die Tochter eines Lebensmittelhändlers. Nur vier ihrer neun Kinder erreichten das Erwachsenenalter. Mit 24 Jahren leitete Hill das Queen's Theatre am Haymarket und inszenierte die Uraufführung von Georg Friedrich Händels Rinaldo.

Nach dem Ende seiner Theaterkarriere gab Hill die Zeitschriften The Plain-Dealer (1724–1727) und The Prompter (1734–1736) heraus.

Aaron Hill war ein großzügiger Förderer von Schriftsteller, darunter John Dyer, Eliza Haywood, David Mallet, James Thomson und Edward Young.
